Grilled Fruit Kabobs

A delicious summer dessert, especially when grilling outside. You can have these cooking while you are enjoying your burgers or steaks.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup margarine

1/4 honey

3 fresh peaches, pitted and quarters

3 fresh plums, pitted and quarters

3 bananas, cut into four pieces each

12 strawberries, hulled

12 skewers

Directions:

  1. Preheat an outdoor grill for medium heat and place large sheet of foil onto the grate.
  2. Melt the margarine and honey together in a small sauce pan over medium heat. Reduce heat to low and cook gently, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened, about 5 minutes. Don't let the sauce boil.
  3. Thread a peach quarter, plum quarter, a banana piece, and strawberry onto each skewer. Place the skewers onto the foil on the preheated grill; spoon margarine-honey mixture over each skewer.
  4. Grill until the fruit is softened and the sauce has thickened and cooked onto the fruit, about 5 minutes. Flip the skewers, spoon more margarine-honey sauce over each, and grill about 5 more minutes on the other side.

Feel free to use whatever fruit you wish.

Why Wiring Materials Matter

Electrical wiring has gone through many phases of development from the first bare wire installed in the 1800s to the present variety of cable sizes and thickness. Without it, modern life would not exist as we know it.

Copper is by far the most common wiring material. It has high electrical conductivity, second only to pure silver, but costs much less. It also dissipates heat easily, preventing it from overheating. It's chemically stable and when it rusts it forms copper oxide, which also conducts electricity. Coppers strength allows it to resist breakage and damage so connections stay intact longer with reduced risk of fire.

Aluminum was popular in North America in the 1960s and 1970s due to the increase in copper prices. Its ability to conduct electricity is less than copper's so wiring must be thicker for the same amount of electricity.

One very important thing to note is that aluminum can overheat and cause a fire. Houses built or renovated in the 60s and 70s will likely contain aluminum wiring.

If you're concerned about the wiring in your home, contact Thomas Edison Electric today. We can make sure everything is safe for you and your family.

Ask The Expert

Lately, I've heard the term "smart home" being talked about. What exactly is a "smart home"?

The phrase "smart home" has crept into our lingo to describe automatic electronic features that

save money and add convenience to home owners.

Here are some suggestions for automating your home. Lights when needed:

One of the simplest automation features to install is to have your lights come on when you walk into a room and shut off when the room is vacant. Lighting can also be controlled with a timer, or with a smart phone, so they will turn on and off when you're not at home in order to fool potential burglars.

Another suggestion is electronic locks. There will be no need for duplicate keys or a key hiding under a flower pot. An electronic locking system allows entry via codes that can be reset as often as you like. Some electronic locks will allow you to lock and unlock your doors from your smart phone. They will even text you when someone enters, such as when your children get home from school.
